In St. Petersburg, a major fire occurred in the building of the Nevskaya Manufactory. During the fire extinguishing, an emergency worker died and two of his colleagues were injured. TASS reports this with reference to the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations.

40 people were evacuated. The department said that at the moment when firefighters were taking people out of the building, the burning intensified sharply. According to the publication, the deceased firefighter was a flight chief, department commander of the 64th fire department. It is specified that the injured firefighters suffered burns on 40-50% of their bodies. Their condition is assessed as serious.

The area of ​​the fire reached 10 thousand square meters: the flames quickly spread across the wooden floors. The roof and interfloor ceilings collapsed.

A TASS source in the emergency services reported that Gospozhnadzor employees had previously identified serious violations of fire safety requirements in the manufactory building, including the absence or malfunction of automatic fire extinguishing, fire alarms and smoke removal. According to the source, these violations were not eliminated; the administrative material was sent to the magistrate’s court. According to him, the materials used to make the boats could have contributed to the rapid spread of the fire.

The Nevskaya Manufactory complex is recognized as a cultural heritage site of regional significance. The St. Petersburg prosecutor's office began an investigation.
