The cryptocurrency market fell sharply on April 18 with a record mark, which reached only a few days ago.
The bitcoin course decreased by more than 11% - to $ 55 533. Ethereum lost even more than 11%. During trading, the quotes of both cryptocurrencies were reduced by 15-18%. Other cryptocurrencies also collapsed: BNB lost almost 12%, Chiliz - more than 16%, Filecoin fell by 15%.
According to Bloomberg, this is the strongest fall in bitcoin in more than seven weeks. On Wednesday alone, its price reached a record $ 64,869 amid a successful placement of Coinbase crypto -tanks on NASDAQ. After placement, its capitalization exceeded $ 100 billion.
The fall may be due to the fact that states are more and more closely studying the risks of cryptocurrencies as investors' base expand, Bloomberg notes. According to the agency, the fears of investors may be associated with not yet confirmed speculations about the possible start of investigation in the United States about laundering through cryptocurrencies.
The head of the Fed, Jerome Powell last week, compared investments in cryptocurrencies with gold, saying that they are more to serve for speculation, and not as a means of payment. At the beginning of the year, the head of the ECB, Kristin Lagard, noted that Bitcoin facilitates the life of various kinds of crime (cryptocurrencies allow us to exist and develop “funny types of business”).
