US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan had a telephone conversation with Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev - according to the White House and the Security Council, representatives of the countries discussed the upcoming meeting of the presidents.

A White House release said that Sullivan and Patrushev "discussed the prospect of a presidential summit between the United States and Russia and agreed to continue to maintain relations."

The Russian Security Council commented in more detail, specifying that the conversation took place on the initiative of the American side. The release said that the representatives of the two countries discussed the nuclear issue of the Korean Peninsula, the Iranian nuclear program, as well as the Open Skies Treaty. “The Russian side pointed out the inadmissibility of US interference in the internal affairs of the Russian Federation and its allies, the groundlessness and unsubstantiated accusations against Russia, on the basis of which the White House introduced a package of anti-Russian sanctions,” the agency said in a statement. At the same time, the Security Council notes that Russia and the United States "confirmed their readiness to continue dialogue in the interests of normalizing relations and ensuring international security."
