The United States warned airlines about the danger of flights near the border of the Russian Federation and Ukraine - there they can be shot down like the Malaysian Boeing MH17

The Federal Civil Aviation Department of the United States (FAA) called on the airline to show "extreme caution" during air flights near the border of Russia and Ukraine, referring to potential risks for flight safety.

As stated in a notification sent to American airlines, "an increasing regional tension can lead to unexpected clashes on the border, an increase in military activity and (or) conflict." FAA also demanded that the airline present information about the planned flights in this region 72 hours before the flight, Reuters reports.

FAA and other American regulatory authorities are concerned that as a result of escalation in this region, a civilian aircraft can be accidentally or intentional, which the parties to the military conflict is incorrectly identified.

As Reuters recalls, in 2014, the MH17 MALAYSIA Airlines flight, flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, was shot down over the eastern Ukraine rocket released from the territory held by pro-Russian military units during battles with Ukrainian troops. All 298 people were killed on board, two -thirds of them are citizens of the Netherlands.

However, the State Aviation Service of Ukraine assures that with the exception of "certain restrictions" for flights in the east of the country, the airspace over Ukraine is safe for flights. In the country, according to the statement, there is a procedure for early warning about threats for flights that may arise as a result of a conflict in eastern Ukraine. Ukraine suggested that the United States begin the exchange of information and coordination of actions in order to ensure flight safety.

Recall, the US Federal Civil Aviation Department (FAA) entered into a ban on flights over the conflict zone back in 2014. The boundaries of the zone forbidden for flights change depending on the situation. For example, in the fall of 2020, American airlines received permission for flights near Crimea, while the airspace over the peninsula remains closed for them.
