The alleged leaders of the Ingush protest have their detention extended
The court extended the detention of seven defendants in the case of protests in Ingushetia in March 2019 by three months, until 9 August. This was reported on the website of the Memorial Human Rights Center.
The case is being considered in the Essentuki City Court (Stavropol Territory). Akhmed Barakhoev, Musa Malsagov, Ismail Nalgiev, Zarifa Sautiyeva, Malsag Uzhakhov, Bagaudin Khautiev and Barakh Chemurziev are accused of organizing the use of violence against government officials, dangerous to life and health (part 2 of article 318 of the Criminal Code with application of part 3 of article 33 UK), during the dispersal of the gathering in Magas (Ingushetia) on March 27, 2019. Barakhoev, Malsagov and Uzhakhov are also accused of organizing the activities of an extremist community (part 1 of article 282.1 of the Criminal Code), and the rest of participating in such activities (part 2 of article 282.1 of the Criminal Code). In addition, Barakhoev and Uzhakhov are accused of being involved in the creation and management of a non-profit organization whose activities are associated with inciting citizens to refuse to perform civic duties or to commit other illegal acts (Article 239 of the Criminal Code).
In March 2021, the court replaced Zarifa Sautiyeva with a preventive measure from detention to house arrest. However, the prosecutor appealed this decision, and after 6 days on appeal she was sent back to custody.
At a hearing on April 20, injured National Guard employees spoke in court, saying that on March 27, 2019, the protesters they tried to disperse resisted and threw plastic bottles, stones and chairs at them. The victims claimed that the protesters did it in an organized manner, but did not provide any arguments. At the same time, they did not point out the accused, both remembered that some two people at the gathering addressed the protesters with a megaphone, one of them was with a gray beard, in a leather coat and an astrakhan hat.
On April 13, other victims who spoke at the trial stated that they had no claims against the defendants and did not understand why they were treated as victims.
In total, there are 67 victims in the case, 23 have already been interrogated, and 11 people have read out the testimony.
20 May 14:30 The Stavropol Regional Court approved the extension of the arrest of the Ingush activists. The defense intends to file a cassation appeal against this decision.
- According to the Memorial Human Rights Center, as of March 10, 2021, in total, in the wake of the March 26-27, 2019 rally, 49 protesters became defendants in criminal cases. The pursuit of three of them was stopped. In relation to 33 defendants, the courts have already delivered guilty verdicts: almost all of them were charged with the use of violence that is not hazardous to health against security forces (part 1 of article 318 of the Criminal Code).
