A participant in the action on January 23 had his sentence commuted in the appellate court

Alexey Vinogradov, a participant in the rally in support of Alexei Navalny on January 23 in Kostroma, accused of using violence against a government official (Part 1 of Article 318 of the Criminal Code), had his sentence commuted in the appellate court. This was reported in the telegram channel of the Arresters 212 project with reference to the press service of the Kostroma Regional Court.

On April 20, the court reduced Vinogradov’s term of forced labor. On March 2, the Sverdlovsk District Court of Kostroma sentenced him to one and a half years of work, now the term is one year and four months.

Vinogradov was accused of “during the detention of one of the participants in an unauthorized rally” and “decided to interfere in the process of detention - he tore off the uniform headdress from the police officer - victim K., and also delivered a targeted kick to the buttock area, causing the latter physical pain and bodily injury that did not cause harm to health.” This was reported by the press service of the Sverdlovsk District Court of Kostroma.

The convicted person will have to serve his sentence in a specialized correctional center with 10% of his salary withheld to the state.

• In the wake of protests in support of Navalny, at least 90 cases were opened in January 2021, the majority of which involved the use of harmless violence against government officials. Vinogradov was one of the first to be sentenced. In total, at the moment, the courts have made more than 20 decisions on cases initiated in connection with the shares. The decision of the Kostroma Regional Court is the first of the appellate decisions known to OVD-Info as part of the campaign of persecution of participants in protests in support of Navalny.
