The defendant in the “palace case,” Valery Evsin, was transported from the Moscow pre-trial detention center No. 2 “Butyrka” in an unknown direction. The telegram channel “Prisoners 212” writes about this.
According to the project, relatives do not know where Evsin was taken. OVD-Info lawyer Maxim Pashkov, who represents the interests of the defendant in the case, also does not know the whereabouts of his client.
On April 7, Evsin was sentenced to two years in prison under the article of violence against a National Guard member (Part 1 of Article 318 of the Criminal Code) at the rally on January 23 in support of Alexei Navalny. The case was considered in a special order.
In a conversation with OVD-Info, the lawyer noted that on May 12, the Moscow City Court should consider an appeal against Evsin’s sentence.
“They [the Federal Penitentiary Service] now have a vicious practice: as they say, in order to unload the pre-trial detention centers in Moscow, they transfer them somewhere after the trial court. And from the place where the person was transported, they organize a press conference [online, to participate in court hearings],” Pashkov added.
Valery Evsin is a 32-year-old taxi driver who worked in Moscow. He was detained on January 26, a few days later the court sent the man to a pre-trial detention center. According to investigators, at the rally he pushed a metal barrier towards a security officer. Pashkov said that the National Guard member did not receive injuries or damage.
“When Evsin pushed the fence towards the policeman, it was not an act of aggression against the police officer, he did not even have the intention to cause physical pain. It was an emotional outburst when law enforcement officers detained the young man and Evsin wanted to try to protect him,” the lawyer emphasized.
The defendant admitted his guilt, during the confrontation he apologized to the police officer and was ready to compensate the policeman for the moral damage caused.
