The main challenge for me was to enter a fairly difficult state - oppressed, bewildered, detached. Usually I am a merryman, a kind of shirt-party, and in this genre I had to reincarnate in another role, the one that I am sometimes afraid to show myself. In Horror, I do not play myself. But many features of my hero can be called autobiographical. I had to be in the state in which my hero is. But translating this emotion into a dominant state on the set was most difficult.
Another challenge was to force the viewer to empathize, to understand the atmosphere and context with almost no remarks. At the same time, I am still a talker on my own, but here I had to be silent.

One of the difficulties in this story was costumes. Initially, we moved somewhere in a more household history, the heroes from the sanatorium lived in our world. But while working with the art department, we suddenly went into visual saturation and convention: silk hoodies, giant collars among Gemini-guards, velvet costumes. So the world of the sanatorium turned somewhere into a fictional reality, now it existed outside the country and time. An excellent casting has been overlapped on this visual move and the story turned out.
For each character, even secondary, we wrote his detailed background and discussed who he was, as he ended up in the sanatorium. There were many conventions and complex staged scenes - dancing, rituals - it was important that the actors were comfortable even in such uncomfortable scenes, and understanding the smallest details about the character in this helped.

The main idea was to present things the protagonist so that they reflect his psycho -emotional state. Throughout the tape, Ivan was mainly in one image, so it was important to add interesting textures. Ivan and I crossed a bunch of things that my team and my team found in second-hand and commissioning. New things also had to look worn: we sewed clothes in the workshop and “aged” her - broke the buttons, made the skin to crack, drove through new sneakers with a car, painted and washed so that they would look like clothes twenty years ago, although she was only a week from her family.
