The Moscow City Court left the person involved in the “palace case” in pre-trial detention center

The Moscow City Court left PEC member Roman Pichuzhin in pre-trial detention until May 21. This was reported by lawyer from OVD-Info Elena Sheremetyeva.

Roman Pichuzhin is a defendant in the “palace case”; he is accused of using violence against a National Guard member (Part 1 of Article 318 of the Criminal Code) at a rally on January 31 in support of Alexei Navalny. According to investigators, Pichuzhin attacked a riot policeman.

The PEC member was detained on March 2 while leaving a special detention center after he served a 30-day administrative arrest. On March 3, the court sent Pichuzhin to a pre-trial detention center, after which on April 5, his preventive measure was extended until May 21. On April 27, the Moscow City Court upheld this court decision.

• After the arrest of politician Alexei Navalny, a series of protests took place throughout Russia; mass rallies took place on Saturday, January 23, Sunday, January 31, and February 2 (the day Navalny’s suspended sentence was replaced with a real one). The security forces reacted harshly to the protests: on January 23, more than 4,000 people were detained, on January 31, more than 5,500 , and on February 2 , more than 1,400 people .
• In connection with the protests that took place from January 23 to February 2, at least 90 criminal cases were opened across the country. Protest participants were accused of using violence against security forces (Article 318 of the Criminal Code), as well as violating sanitary and epidemiological rules (Part 1 of Article 236 of the Criminal Code), involving minors in illegal activities (Part 2 of Article 151.2 of the Criminal Code), hooliganism ( Art. 213 of the Criminal Code) and other articles.
