Sheremetyevo has planned an experiment to allow passengers to board flights using face scanning

At Sheremetyevo Airport they are planning to conduct an experiment on boarding passengers on a flight by scanning their faces and comparing them with data from the state “Unified Biometric System”. this RBC reports with reference to a document on the implementation of the project; its authenticity was confirmed by three sources of the publication.

Director of Public Relations at Sheremetyevo Anna Zakharenkova clarified that the facial scanning system will be installed at the entrance to the pre-flight inspection area of ​​domestic airlines - where you need to present a passport and boarding pass - and at the boarding gates.

Aeroflot official representative Mikhail Demin added that a turnstile with a biometric camera at the boarding gate will eliminate the need for passengers to show their passport and ticket. “The system will independently check whether the person is a passenger on this flight and whether he has passed pre-flight inspection by airport security,” the publication writes.

Demin noted that such a pilot project has already been launched at the Kaliningrad Khrabrovo airport.

An employee of the Ministry of Digital Development confirmed to the publication that the experiment at Sheremetyevo is planned to begin in September. “The representative of the ministry emphasized that biometrics will become an additional tool for passing control at the airport and passengers will be able to undergo control using this technology solely at their own request,” writes RBC.

Two sources noted that the project plan has not yet been approved. The experiment will be carried out on a test domestic flight - which one is not specified.
