Based on the results of the first three months of 2021, Baltika's market share increased by 2.7 percentage points compared to Q1 2020, amounting to 26.9%. This was facilitated by investments in the launch and promotion of brands and the development of new sales channels. Sales growth in the first quarter of 2021 was demonstrated by both alcoholic beverages, including fruit drinks, and soft drinks, in particular, energy drinks. In the first quarter, several alcoholic and non-alcoholic novelties were successfully introduced to the market.
Baltika’s non-alcoholic products (the Baltika 0 line and Flash Up energy drinks) showed an impressive growth in online sales: in the first quarter of 2021, the same volume of the company’s products was sold on online platforms as in the whole of 2020. In general, the growth in sales of non-alcoholic products of Baltika in new sales channels (online platforms, gas stations, vending machines and non-alcoholic outlets) in Q1 2021 amounted to 350%. Baltika's new partners are 12 filling stations, 340 non-alcoholic outlets and 4 vending machine operators.
The company's sales volume in the HoReCa channel is gradually returning to the level of the beginning of last year. If, according to the results of the first quarter of 2021, this indicator did not return to the figures of the first three months of 2020, then in March of this year, Baltika's sales in HoReCa increased by 6% compared to March 2020. However, the situation in this segment is still uncertain. At the same time, the company's sales volume in the modern trade channel (national and local retail chains) increased by 28%.
Export sales of Baltika in the first quarter of 2021 in general and in March in particular reached a maximum over the past 5 years. The increase in exports for the first three months amounted to 42.6% compared to the same period last year. Kyrgyzstan, China, Mongolia, Georgia and Germany became the key markets for foreign trade.
The volume of investments of the company as a whole during this period increased by 18% compared to the first quarter of 2020, amounting to 757 million rubles. One of the key tasks and areas of investment in the first quarter for Baltika was preparing for the summer season. The funds were invested, among other things, in the purchase of new, more environmentally friendly, refrigeration equipment, as well as beer bottling machines and furniture for outdoor cafes. Another major investment was the purchase of equipment for the production of non-alcoholic beer at a factory in Tula. In addition, in the first quarter of 2021, the company prepared biological treatment facilities for commissioning in Rostov-on-Don and St. Petersburg.
On April 27, Baltika released the 2020 Sustainability Report. Among the company's main achievements are an 8% reduction in CO2 emissions from breweries, ensuring the collection and processing of almost 50% of the volume of released packaging, and greening logistics.
