The head of the independent association of lawyers and journalists "Team 29" Lawyer Ivan Pavlov was detained on the morning of April 30 in the hotel room in Moscow. A little later, Pavlov’s colleague Yevgeny Smirnov said that Ivan Pavlov was charged with the 310th article of the Criminal Code "Disclosure of the data of a preliminary investigation". Punishment under the article: a fine of up to 80 thousand rubles, either compulsory work for up to 480 hours, or correctional labor for a period of up to 2 years, or an arrest for up to three months.

Later, the search was held with the wife of Pavlov in St. Petersburg, in the office of "Team 29", as well as in the country of the lawyer.

Before the meeting, his lawyer Yevgeny Smirnov reported that the investigator asked to provide information about the property of Pavlov and Smirnov, as well as find out what means of communication and phones their acquaintances use, where they work and live.

According to the “team 29”, the case against the lawyer Ivan Pavlov was opened after a report, which was personally signed by the head of the FSB, Alexander Bortnikov. This document was sent to the head of the Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin.

Smirnov told RBC that personally Bortnikov was extremely rarely signed by such documents. According to 447 and 448 Code of Criminal Procedure, lawyers are among special-subjects. But to initiate a case against a lawyer, the sanction of the head of the investigative body of the IC in Russia is enough.

Pavlov, before the meeting, said that he did not consider himself guilty. “Attacks on me are attacks on my clients,” he said.

The court eventually satisfied the application of the investigation: Pavlov could not use the Internet and communicate with witnesses in the case. The defense asked for a pledge, but they refused it.

"Team 29" is an independent association of lawyers and journalists from St. Petersburg. However, lawyers work on resonance affairs throughout the country: they represent the interests of the FBK* in the case of extremism, journalist Ivan Safronov, former top manager of Inter RAO, scientist Viktor Kudryavtsev, who died the day before at Lefortovo.

The “real emergency” was called the detention of Ivan Pavlov, the famous lawyer Karinna Moskalenko . She called on her colleagues to show solidarity and support the leader of the team 29 at that moment.

“For my part, I send an urgent signal to the headquarters of the International Commission of Lawyers in Geneva and I ask about an immediate action by this world organization to protect people's legal profession,” Moskalenko wrote on her Facebook page.

According to Yevgeny Smirnov, Pavlov often received threats from FSB investigators, in particular from Alexander Cheban (leads the case of journalist Ivan Safronov). “He said in the face: you are standing across the throat for us, we will do everything to plant you,” Smirnov said.

The senior lawyer of the “team 29” Maxim Olenichev immediately after the detention of Pavlov said that the reason for the searches is connected directly with the cases in which the “team 29” is participating.

Human rights activist Pavel Chikov noted that the persecution of lawyers for disclosing the investigation data is a rarely used technique. He gathered several stories when lawyers were accused of discussing the details of the closed case with colleagues.

Schlosberg was one of the applicants in the case of classifying military losses in peacetime, which was conducted by the “team 29” in 2015 in the Supreme Court, disputing the presidential decree. The politician himself turned to Ivan Pavlov for help in 2018, when a criminal case was opened in Pskov under Article 141 of the Criminal Code - the obstruction of the exercise of the electoral rights of citizens.

“We know about this from the media reports, but we do not follow, because we do not have information. We do not know either the reason for this detention or how this happened, which is charged with this lawyer. This is not our prerogative,” Peskov told reporters.

A large group of Russian lawyers wrote and published a petition in defense of Ivan Pavlov and his colleagues from the 29 team. The petition is addressed to the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation. It, in particular, says:
