At the age of 100 years, the former secretary of the Central Committee of the CPSU Egor Ligachev died. His name is associated with the winged phrase "Boris, you are wrong"

Former member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the CPSU and the first secretary of the Tomsk regional committee Yegor Ligachev died on the evening of May 7 in Moscow, TASS reports with reference to the administration of the Tomsk region. On November 29, 2020, Ligachev celebrated his 100th anniversary.

Since April 5, Yegor Ligachev was treated in the hospital, a few days ago he was transferred to intensive care with bilateral pneumonia, the son of the former secretary of the Central Committee of the CPSU Alexander Ligachev told Komsomolskaya Pravda. According to him, his father did not have a coronavirus infection. “A long -standing problems with the lungs have become aggravated,” he said.

Egor Ligachev for 18 years, from 1965 to 1983, headed the Tomsk region. In 1983, at the initiative of the Secretary General of the CPSU Central Committee Yuri Andropov, he was transferred to Moscow to the post of secretary of the Central Committee of the party. On March 11, 1985, Ligachev supported the candidacy of Mikhail Gorbachev in the election of the Secretary General. He later helped the first secretary of the Sverdlovsk regional committee Boris Yeltsin, the future first president of Russia, to go to Moscow.

In 1985-1988, Ligachev was responsible for the issues of ideology as a secretary of the Central Committee and, as TASS writes in his biography, "was actually a second person in the party after the Secretary General of Mikhail Gorbachev." At the same time, Ligachev was responsible for the anti -alcohol campaign in the USSR. In 1989-1992, Ligachev was a People's Deputy of the USSR. In July 1990, he was removed from all party posts and retired.

During the years of perestroika, Ligachev advocated the preservation of a single -party system in the country. In 1992, he stated that his participation in Gorbachev’s nomination for the post of Secretary General of the CPSU Central Committee was “the largest personnel mistake”.

The name of Ligachev is associated with the winged phrase "Boris, you are wrong." On July 1, 1988, Boris Yeltsin spoke at the XIX party conference, who, a few months before, was removed from the post of first secretary of the Moscow City Committee of the CPSU. Ligachev interrupted Yeltsin and, commenting on his speech, said, among other things, said : "You, Boris, did not make the right political conclusions." The expression “Boris, you are wrong” was introduced by the comedian Gennady Khazanov, who used it in one of his monologues, writes the newspaper “Arguments and Facts” in the article about the “main winged phrase of the era of perestroika”.

Egor Ligachev is also associated with the destruction of the Kolpashevsky Yar - the mass burial of the victims of political repression in the city of Kolpashevo, Tomsk Region, in 1979. Ligachev himself denied his involvement in what happened.
