The Ministry of Justice added VTimes to the list of foreign agents

The Ministry of Justice entered the independent online publication VTimes into the register of foreign agents. This was reported on the website of the department.

VTimes became the 20th foreign media agent.

• VTimes was founded in 2020 by former Vedomosti journalists who left the publication after a change in editor-in-chief.
• At the end of December 2020, the State Duma adopted changes to the legislation on foreign agents. According to the new clarifications, the status of a foreign agent can be obtained by an individual engaged in political activities and receiving money from abroad for this. Another draft law prohibits the dissemination of information from foreign agents in the media without a special mark. The tightening of legislation continued in February 2021.
