Amazon plans to hire 10,000 new employees in the UK by the end of 2021, thereby expanding its staff in this country to 55,000 people, writes Bloomberg.
Amazon is one of the few major employers adding jobs during the pandemic. A day earlier, the online retailer announced that it would hire 75,000 employees for its logistics operation in North America. In 2020, Amazon employed about half a million people, as of the end of March 2021, its total workforce was 1.3 million people.
The 10,000 new jobs should be a boost to the British labor market as the country emerges from its biggest economic downturn in three centuries. The coronavirus crisis has resulted in the loss of more than 800,000 jobs. Approximately 4 million workers had to rely on government support.
