In Veliky Novgorod, police disrupted a congress of independent municipal deputies.

The congress was held at the Amaks Hotel. Sergei Maksimov, head of the Veliky Novgorod Department of Internal Affairs, who arrived there as part of a police brigade, said that the congress violated the decree of the governor of the Novgorod region Andrei Nikitin on coronavirus restrictions. On May 20, Nikitin tightened the measures in force in the region, reducing the maximum number of private events allowed from 50 to 30 people.

At the same time, according to the organizer of the event, former Moscow municipal deputy Yulia Galyamina, the participants of the congress gathered in several halls of the hotel in groups of 25 people and, thus, did not violate the law.

As a result, the police detained Galyamina and the deputy of the Vladimir district of St. Petersburg Vitaly Bovar, and they began to draw up reports on the violation of sanitary and epidemiological rules (Part 1 of Article 20.6.1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation) on those remaining in the hotel.
