The court in cassation upheld the sentence of ex-Open Russia coordinator Yana Antonova

The Court of Cassation in Krasnodar upheld the verdict of the former coordinator of the local Open Russia, Yana Antonova. “MBH Media” writes about this with reference to the coordinator of “Human Rights Postcard” Alexey Pryanishnikov.

Antonova's sentence was set in October 2020 - the courtfound her guilty under the article on carrying out the activities of an organization recognized as undesirable in Russia (Article 284.1 of the Criminal Code). She was sentenced to 240 hours of community service.

The charges were based, in particular, on holding single pickets, reposting on social networks, and participating in an environmental seminar on the separate collection of recyclables.

The case against the ex-coordinator was initiated in 2019 - this is the third case in the country that was opened under the article on “undesirable organization.” The first was brought against Anastasia Shevchenko, a former member of Open Russia in the Rostov region - she was under house arrest for more than two years. In February shewas sentenced to four years of suspended imprisonment.

• In 2017, the Prosecutor General's Office recognized as undesirable several organizations associated with Mikhail Khodorkovsky, registered in the UK and the USA. Despite the fact that the Russian Open Russia movement was not banned, its participants continued to be persecuted. In March 2019, the organization announced self-destruction due to security reasons.
