Moscow State University student Said-Mukhamad Dzhumaev was asked to serve 5 years in prison in the case of a fight with riot police at a rally

At a meeting of the Tverskoy District Court of Moscow late in the evening of May 28, the prosecution asked for five years in prison for Lomonosov Moscow State University student Said-Mukhamad Dzhumaev, a defendant in the case of a fight with riot police at a rally on January 23. His aunt writes about this on Instagram.

“I want to upset you. A miracle did not happen, a JUDGMENT happened. There is no good news. The prosecutor asked for 5 years in a general regime colony. I didn’t take any of the lawyers’ arguments or mitigating circumstances into account. The judge will announce the verdict on Monday,” reports Dzhumaeva’s aunt.

The “Arresters 212” project clarifies that the announcement on May 31 is scheduled for 9 am.

Said-Mukhamad Dzhumaev is charged with an article about violence against government officials (Part 1 of Article 318 of the Criminal Code). The investigation claims that he punched and kicked an equipped riot policeman on Pushkin Square during a rally in support of Navalny on January 23. Dzhumaev admitted his guilt, and the case is already being considered in a special manner.

According to the version that Dzhumaev’s relatives voiced to State Duma deputy from Chechnya Adam Delimkhanov, Said-Mukhamad acted in a state of passion: he received a blow to the head and after that began to fight with riot police.

Currently, Dzhumaev is in a pre-trial detention center. The court at the preliminary hearing refused to dismiss the case.

• In connection with the rallies in support of Alexei Navalny, which took place from January 23 to February 2, at least 90 criminal cases were opened across the country. The protest participants were accused not only of using violence against security forces (Article 318 of the Criminal Code), but also of violating sanitary and epidemiological rules (Part 1 of Article 236 of the Criminal Code), involving minors in illegal activities (Part 2 of Article 151.2 of the Criminal Code), road closures (Article 267 of the Criminal Code).
• Opposition politician Alexei Navalny decided to return to Russia after completing a course of treatment and rehabilitation in Germany: he was taken there by plane after being poisoned with Novichok, for which the politician blamed the FSB . After his return, he was detained and then sent into custody until the trial to replace the suspended sentence with a real one.
