A court in Moscow sentenced activist Daria Polyudova to 6 years in prison on charges of extremism and justification of terrorism.

In Moscow, the 2nd Western District Military Court sentenced left-wing activist Daria Polyudova to 6 years in prison, finding her guilty of justifying terrorism. This was reported by the human rights project “Network Free” with reference to lawyer Leonid Solovyov.

“In addition, the court banned the activist from working in the media and organizing mass events for 4 years. The court also banned her from posting information on the Internet for 4 years,” human rights activists added.

Polyudova was found guilty of justifying terrorism on the Internet (Part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code), as well as of public calls for extremism (Part 1 of Article 280 of the Criminal Code) - the court reclassified one of the episodes in the case of justifying terrorism as calls for extremism.

The state prosecution requested 7 years in prison for Polyudova; while in custody, the activist went on a hunger strike.

The activist, who was the first in Russia to be convicted of calling for separatism, ended up in a pre-trial detention center because of a post about the Chechen field commander Shamil Basayev, as well as because of a video about Yevgeny Manyurov, who carried out a shooting near the FSB building on Lubyanka.
