The court imposed a fine on the mufti of Ingushetia under the article on illegal missionary work

On May 27, the Sunzhensky District Court found Mufti of Ingushetia Isa Khamkhoev guilty under the article on illegal missionary activity (part 4 of article 5.26 of the Code of Administrative Offenses) - he was fined five thousand rubles. This was reported by the Human Rights Center "Memorial".

The reason for drawing up the administrative protocol was a sermon that Khamkhoev read in February in a mosque in the city of Sunzha. According to the court, while delivering a sermon, the mufti was engaged in missionary activity, to which he had no right. At the same time, Khamkhoev's lawyer Magomed-Basir Ozdoev insists that his client was not engaged in missionary work: he read a sermon in a mosque where only Muslims came.

The head of the Ingush office of the Memorial Human Rights Center, Timur Akiev, believes that the administrative case is connected with the oppositional views of Khamkhoev: the mufti opposed the regional authorities and supported the protests in Ingushetia in 2018 and 2019.

• This is not the first fine of Isa Khamkhoev. In February, he was fined under the "rallying article" because of a meeting with imams, in April, under the same article, the court imposed a fine on him for holding the election of a mufti.
• On March 26, 2019, about 10 thousand people came out to a rally in Magas against changing the borders with Chechnya. About two thousand protesters remained on the square all night. In the morning they began to be dispersed, as a result of which clashes broke out between the security forces and the protesters .
• According to the Memorial Human Rights Center, as of March 2021, in the wake of the rally in Magas, 51 people were brought to justice, and criminal prosecution against 3 of them was discontinued. More than 30 defendants in the "Ingush case" were sentenced to terms ranging from five months to three and a half years.
