The State Duma in the first reading adopted a bill on blocking the websites of Internet companies for refusing to open a representative office in Russia

The State Duma adopted in the first reading a bill that will oblige large Internet companies to open representative offices in Russia. This was reported on the website of the lower house of parliament.

A company with a daily audience of 500 thousand people is considered large. Roskomnadzor will maintain a register of such resources. If the company does not want to cooperate with the Russian authorities, then it will be banned from advertising, money transfers will be limited and the site will be blocked.

According to the authors of the bill, it will facilitate the interaction of representatives of a foreign company with officials and simplify the “deletion of information in violation of the legislation of the Russian Federation.”

The bill was introduced on May 21. One of the authors of the United Russia initiative, Alexander Khinshtein , estimated that 20 companies should open representative offices in Russia, including Facebook , Google , TikTok , Telegram, online stores Ikea and Iherb.
