Gatchina is the largest settlement in the Leningrad region. In the spring of 2021, it became the capital of the region. The historical center of the city, as well as the Gatchina Museum-Reserve are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

How to get
By train
The train to Gatchina goes from the Baltic station. Depending on the type of train, the path will take from 30 minutes to an hour. In addition, there are two stations in the city. If you are going to visit the palace, it is better to go to Gatchina-Baltic.

What to see
Priorat Castle

Shcherbov estate
The Northern Art Nouveau estate belonged to the St. Petersburg cartoon artist Pavel Shcherbov. The building was built in 1911. Chaliapin, Gorky, Kuprin were visiting Shcherbov.
The museum has two expositions: memorial and local history. Since the summer of 2020, it has been closed for restoration, but there are street excursions on the preliminary record.

Palace Park
The palace and the park adjacent to it are the most famous sights of Gatchina. In the forest part of the park, on the shores of the river Kolpanka there is a palace farm , where they hold peacocks, goats and geese.

- The park is amazing, were in the fall, beauty! Fish, ducks, swans, squirrels - children were delighted. Of the minuses, the already mentioned absence of toilets, benches, very narrow paths and many prohibitions: do not walk on lawns, do not sit on the grass, do not approach the water. It is clear that this was done in order to maintain the appearance of the park for as long as possible in the best condition, but a little with an enforcement.
Jaeger settlement
This is a historical area of the city with 150-year-old wooden houses with platbands and carvings. Sloboda arose in the middle of the 19th century, when court imperial hunting was transferred to Gatchina from Peterhof. Architect Georg Gross developed a development project with a hunting management building, a school, residential buildings for rangers, a bathhouse. Most of the log buildings have been preserved, people still live here. The central in the settlement is the street, which now bears the name of the Komsomol members.

Marienburg
Another historical district of Gatchina is located next to the Jaeger settlement. Here, during a walk, you can admire the wooden dachas of the 19th - early XX centuries. For example, Grachev’s dacha , which is called a “home with a tower”. The building of the Marienburg railway station in the Art Nouveau railway station also deserves attention.
