In Budapest, streets next to the University of China are renamed in honor of Uyghurs, Tibet and Hong Kong

In the center of Budapest, several new streets appeared with names that attract attention to the acute political problems of China. In the area of Ferencvarosh, the streets of the Uygursky martyrs, free Hong Kong, the Dalai Lama and the name of the Chinese dissident Bishop Se Shiguan were opened. This was reported by the Hungarian Service of Radio Liberty.

The names appeared in the area where the campus of one of the main Chinese universities - Fudan University should appear. The opening ceremony of new streets was attended by the mayors of Ferencvarosh Chrisztin Barayi and Budapest Gergeli Karachoni. Baraii explained that in this way the district and the city are protested against the decision on the placement of the university adopted by the Hungarian government.

The construction of a representative office of the University of Fudan in the center of Budapest has been discussed for several months and causes acute criticism from the opposition, the Text reports . It opens against the very use of the land that the government, by agreement with the city, was to improve, financing the project at the expense of the budget and that the campus, from the point of view of the opposition, will actually become a representation of the Chinese Communist Party in the city.

According to a survey available at the disposal of Karachoni, 90 percent of the capital’s residents are opposed to the project. The opposition planned to hold a referendum on this issue, but it will most likely not take place due to the pandemic. The situation is aggravated by the fact that the government forced the European University to move from Budapest to another country, which was founded by American financier George Soros.
