Part of the "law of Dima Yakovlev" can be extended to all foreigners

The Russian government proposes to impose sanctions on the so -called "law of Dima Yakovlev" in relation to any foreigners, and not just US citizens. Corresponding amendments are made to the State Duma.

On Wednesday, the document was published in the database of the lower house of parliament, Interfax notes . The amendments developed by the ministers suggest that personal restrictive measures can be introduced against citizens of any countries and stateless persons who have committed crimes against Russians who have passed unfair sentences to Russian citizens or violated their rights and “legal interests”.

We are talking about the expansion of such sanctions as a ban on entry into Russia, an arrest on the Russian territory of financial assets, a ban on transactions with property and investments, as well as suspension of the activities of companies that are under the control of sanctions.

In the explanatory note to the project, it is noted that the requirements for the "law of Dima Yakovlev", which relate to foreign adoption of Russian children, will not change.

The law, widely known as the "Law of Dima Yakovlev" or as the "answer to the American Law of Magnitsky ", was adopted in 2012. According to it, in particular, citizens of the United States cannot act in Russia in Russia.

Experts and adoptive parents said that the law is discriminatory. By the end of 2020, the number of cases of adoption by foreigners from Russia has declined by 11 times since 2012, Kommersant notes .
