“First -class intelligence,” wrote Scott Fitzgerald, “is able to function even when he keeps two opposite ideas in his mind at once.
I'm trying. Previously, not very, because the victory in the dispute seemed more important than now. Now rather the opposite. It is worthwhile to make sure that doubts overcome me: are others wrong? I know that the majority has nothing to do with it. And if it believes that Crimea is ours, and Navalny is not them, then I do not agree with this. And yet I need an antagonist to maintain a balance and stand on two legs - right and left.
In today's America, it became more difficult than in all 43 years that I spent here.
I thought about all this, watching the Rednec family sat in a red truck. He really had a red neck, tattoos and a beer stomach bulging from a T -shirt with a white -headed eagle. His girlfriend was like a fed penguin. The bumper was decorated with a star-striped flag and sticker: “unspoken” (otherwise I doubted). Despite the fact that the case was at the parking lot near the beach, the couple looked sullen, a threat lurked in his eyes, in his pose - readiness for firing. I carefully pretended that I did not notice them so as not to get it by kumpol, because everything is written on my face. When we published the new American newspaper and businessmen went to the editor, Dovlatov asked me to leave a visit to the toilet so that my grimaces would not offend potential advertisers.
This is not to say that I have a lot of acquaintances of Rednecs, we rotate in different circles, and they would not call me to our own. If I go to church, then to listen to the organ or jazz. If I get out for hunting, then for mushroom. If I buy a car, then without a body. If I drink beer, then not from the can. If I had a weapon, then no worse than a slingshot. And most importantly, of course, it is that I did not vote for Trump, I do not believe that he stole the elections, I do not consider Bayden a ramolic, I do not believe that the capitols who captured the Capitol are patriots, and I know for sure that the democrats did not come up with a vaccine, to harm the true leader of the nation.
In short, they are opponents to me, I am an enemy for them. We do not have a common language, because I say “New York Times” on mine, and Qhanon, where they believe in the global conspiracy of pedophiles with aliens.
But the fewer hopes for mutual understanding, the more acute I feel the need to admit their truth too.
Just because it is, and not because there are 72 million of them, and perhaps they still own the future, in any case, the nearest.
“Most of all in Trump’s phenomenon,” an old comrade who voted for him tells me, but, unlike many, remained my friend, “those who hates him are to blame.” For the sake of denunciation of the former president, you closed your eyes to all the nonsense and meanness that gave rise to him. Actually, you brought Trump to the White House, and now you are complaining that he still cannot pick it out of the political consciousness of the whole party and its loyal voters.
Remember to begin with that whenever the left accuses the right of racism, a new trampist is born.
It seems that it is. No one wants to be humiliated and called for him, and in America it is difficult to find a nickname more offensive and more dangerous. This does not mean that there are no racists in the country, this means that everyone considers another one - usually, however, to himself, and not aloud. But today you can’t sit down. The racial problem, the most painful in American history, again came to the surface, became an object of mass speculation and led to a crisis.
The events of last summer with their powerful protests against the violence of the police in relation to black turned out to be the ugly growth of crime. In New York, which was already used to considering himself one of the safest megacities, the shootings twice and the number of murders doubled. It is easy to guess why. I remember how the police were demoralized a year ago under the pressure of demonstrations. Under the threat of attacks, the plots were guarded as military bases, and the “cops” themselves, which in ordinary times are considered a home sign of New York life and popular characters of the series, looked so dull, as if everyone wanted to explain to passers-by that he was not strangled by George Floyd.
Over the year, which had passed after this tragic incident, the so -called “racial theory” flourished, the victims of which were both black and white Americans. The first to explain that they are not responsible for anything, because the latter are to blame for everything. Within the framework of this concept, the whites cannot get rid of sin due to the innate privileges that they inherited from their race. So the color of the skin again became a fatal sign that determines the personality, which, I must say, buried the dream and tactics of the first black president. After all, Obama, by the way, by Martin Luther King, dreamed of racial color blindness, abolishing differences that a new theory requires perpetuate.
Race theory most threatens the education system. The dogma of historical inequality leads to the abolition of the central conquest of democracy - the free competition of talents. Meritocracy freed America from the estate brake of the Old World and allowed him to defeat, overtake and save him. But if you remove an objective criterion from the equation, the decline is inevitable.
“A fair assessment,” the apologists of new equality insist, “should take into account not only knowledge, but also those factors that prevented the student from obtaining them: skin color, well -being of the residential area, parents' income and their presence.
In New York there are several elite schools that are famous throughout the country. More Nobel laureates came out of them than from Harvard. To get here, you need to pass a difficult exam and overtake many applicants.
The problem is in racial composition. Among the received - an insignificant amount of blacks, but their innate privileges did not help white.
The vast majority are Asians, many are children of poor emigrants, whose parents not so long ago moved to America and hardly speak English.
“In order to destroy inequality,” the ideologists say racial theory, “we must abolish exams for black schoolchildren until their number is proportional to the percentage of the Black Population of New York.”
“What will lead,” opponents of the interest rate are fighting off, “to the destruction of the best schools of the city and will not help anyone, because equality is by no means identical to justice.”
While we have these disputes are going on, in an even more progressive San Francisco began to correct life, starting with history. The leadership of fifty schools removed the names of outstanding Americans from their names, who, when examining through the magnifier, were not so outstanding. Among them was Abraham Lincoln.
I have friends who vowed not to talk about Trump anymore. For them, the politics ended, or rather, she returned to where she was always: inevitable everyday life, as always, but not quite. Trump left us two warring camps. Adherents of everyone profess their faith, which cannot be shaken by either facts or arguments. In the right, this is a big lie about the stolen elections, which deprives the current government. The left has the myth of all the suffering minorities, which sacrifice common sense.
Two extremes nourish and hover each other. Together, they lead to a political impasse, which prevents the country from moving in any direction. It was not so noticeable while the previous president lived in the White House.
Most of the voters - which, in fact, showed the elections - belonged to the party "Not Trump".
Without it, however, the horizon cleared and became visible to idiotic trends among the radicals of both parties. This does not equalize them, but makes them helpless and vulnerable. It is not surprising that together with a half America we are ready to exchange two parties for the third, which would help the country return to the center of itself.
