The court left the father of the former director of FBK in pre-trial detention

The Arkhangelsk Regional Court rejected the appeal of Yuri Zhdanov, the father of the former director of the Anti-Corruption Foundation Ivan Zhdanov, and left him in pre-trial detention until July 21. This was reported by Open Media with reference to the press secretary of the court.

The defense asked to change the preventive measure to house arrest, bail, or a ban on certain actions, since Yuri Zhdanov is accused of articles related to economic and official crimes. “The lawyer refers to the position of the Supreme Court, which has repeatedly indicated that those accused of non-violent, economic and official crimes should not be detained,” the publication notes. Nevertheless, 66-year-old Zhdanov has been in pre-trial detention for three months.

Zhdanov's lawyer Vladimir Voronin said that since the court announced only the operative part of the decision, they do not know the exact reason why his client was left in the pre-trial detention center, and they plan to file a complaint with the cassation after the publication of the full version of the court decision.

• Yuri Zhdanov was detained on March 26 at home in Rostov-on-Don. He was searched, interrogated, and the next day he was placed under arrest. According to investigators, while working in the administration in the village of Iskateley in the Nenets Autonomous Okrug (part of the Arkhangelsk region), Yuri Zhdanov exceeded his official authority when, as part of the housing commission, he recommended to the head of the village to allocate an apartment to a local resident under a social rental agreement - since the family did not have her right, having received this benefit earlier.
• On May 19, Yuri Zhdanov was reclassified from the article on abuse of power (Part 1 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code) to more serious articles on official forgery (Article 292 of the Criminal Code) and fraud on an especially large scale (Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code). Now, according to Ivan Zhdanov, his father faces up to 10 years in prison.
• On June 9, 2021, the Moscow City Court recognized the Anti-Corruption Foundation (FBK), the Foundation for the Protection of Citizens' Rights (FZPG) and the headquarters of Alexei Navalny as extremist organizations.
