Sergei Sobyanin: the number of patients on ventilators in Moscow is growing, the peak of the pandemic has shifted to June-July

In Moscow, the spring peak of the pandemic has shifted and is expected in June-July. This was announced on the Russia 24 TV channel by the mayor of the city, Sergei Sobyanin, RIA Novosti reports.

The mayor also emphasized that people began to get sick more severely - and that the number of Muscovites on ventilators in the city is growing. He did not specify exactly how many residents of the city are connected to the devices.

The Moscow authorities stopped publishing exact statistics of people on ventilators in the winter, when a Meduza source in the mayor’s office said that the statistics had been removed so as not to “spoil people’s mood for the holidays.” Meduza is now awaiting a response from the Moscow Operations Headquarters on the exact number of patients on ventilators and on the prospects for regular publication of this data.

Sobyanin also said that Moscow was not going to introduce additional restrictions, while stressing that the authorities would strengthen control over compliance with existing measures.

• On June 11, 5,853 new cases of coronavirus were recorded in Moscow. This is the highest value since January. Since May, the incidence in the city has increased one and a half times.
