"Don't go far. You see the situation around Belarus. God forbid you and I still take the gun in our hands and defend the country. The situation is not easy,” Lukashenka told Sheiman. This is not the first time the head of the manager of the President of Belarus has asked for his resignation, according to Lukashenka himself.

Viktor Sheiman, 63, is a professional paratrooper and veteran of the war in Afghanistan. He has been a member of the Supreme Council of Belarus since the independence of the republic, and since 1994 he has become one of the closest people in Lukashenka's team.

When Lukashenka was in power, Sheiman was in the Security Council of Belarus and headed it, was the head of the Presidential Administration and the country's prosecutor general, and also replaced Lukashenka's opponent Yury Zakharenko, who disappeared without a trace, as head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs after his resignation.

In 2012, the European Union imposed sanctions against Sheiman with the wording "responsible for the uninvestigated disappearances of [Minister of Internal Affairs] Yuri Zakharenko, [CEC chairman] Viktor Gonchar, [businessman] Anatoly Krasovsky and [journalist] Dmitry Zavadsky in 1999-2000."

All of the above opponents of Lukashenka were allegedly kidnapped and killed. The media associate Sheiman's name with the organization of these political assassinations.
