Jehovah's Witness in pre-trial detention center is not allowed to see his wife

Jehovah's Witness from Kazan, Konstantin Sannikov, who is in a pre-trial detention center, is denied visits with his wife. Jehovah's Witnesses in Russia write about this.

Over the course of nine months, Sannikov was denied visits six times. In this regard, the believer filed an appeal with the Supreme Court of the Republic of Tatarstan for violation of the Federal Law “On the detention of suspects and accused of committing crimes.”

Sannikov was placed in a pre-trial detention center at the end of August 2020. He is accused under the article on organizing the activities of a prohibited organization (Part 1 of Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code). According to investigators, the believer held “illegal religious meetings... with the aim of inducing [the audience] to have a hostile perception of people identified on the basis of their religious affiliation.”

On November 17, Sannikov was still not allowed to meet with his wife, the Jehovah’s Witnesses in Russia website reported on November 10. He complains of an aggravated illness. The believer needs dietary nutrition, but parcels with it are not given to him.

• In April 2017, the Supreme Court recognized the Administrative Center of Jehovah's Witnesses in Russia as an extremist organization and banned its activities throughout the country. In August of the same year, all communities of Jehovah's Witnesses were added to the list of prohibited ones.
