The State Duma banned the display of images of Nazi criminals without condemning them

The State Duma in the third reading adopted a bill banning the display of images of Nazi criminals. This was reported on the website of the lower house of parliament.

Speeches and images of leaders of groups, organizations or movements recognized as criminal in accordance with the verdict of the Nuremberg Tribunal, as well as leaders of organizations that collaborated with them, will be considered prohibited.

“An exception to this ban will be cases in which images are used to form a negative attitude towards the ideology of Nazism, as well as if there are no signs of propaganda or justification of Nazism,” the message says.

In the explanatory note, the legislators mention "resonant cases of public display of images of Nazi criminals", as well as the sale of "various souvenirs" with them. The deputies believe that the bill should stop "the glorification of war criminals on the territory of our country."

Experts from the SOVA Information and Analytical Center draw attention to the fact that in the bill images of Nazi criminals are equated with extremist materials, which means that they should be banned by court decisions and then included in the Federal List of Extremist Materials.
