The court extended house arrest for four defendants in the “sanitary case”

The Basmanny District Court of Moscow extended the preventive measure in the form of house arrest for those involved in the “sanitary case”: Alexei Navalny’s press secretary Kira Yarmysh, Pussy Riot member Maria Alyokhina, former coordinator of Navalny’s Moscow headquarters Oleg Stepanov and municipal deputy Dmitry Baranovsky. This was reported by MBKH Media with reference to the press service of the court.

“The court extended the house arrest of Alekhina and Stepanov until July 28, Yarmysh until July 30, and Baranovsky until July 31. The defense’s requests to change the preventive measure were denied,” the publication quotes the press service.

• The defendants in the case are charged with incitement to violate sanitary and epidemiological standards (Part 1 of Article 236 of the Criminal Code with the application of Part 4 of Article 33 of the Criminal Code) in connection with publications about the rally on January 23 in support of Navalny. Such charges were also brought against Navalny’s brother Oleg, former lawyer of the Anti-Corruption Foundation Lyubov Sobol, politician Nikolai Lyaskin, head of the Doctors’ Alliance Anastasia Vasilyeva, municipal deputies Lyusa Stein and Konstantin Yankauskas. Lyaskin’s case, as well as the cases of Sobol and Navalny, is already in court. On April 22, it became known that a defendant had appeared in the case, who, according to the investigation, succumbed to the calls of the main accused and came to the rally, despite the fact that he was sick with coronavirus.
• In connection with the detention of Alexei Navalny, a series of protests took place throughout Russia. The largest protests took place on Saturday, January 23, and Sunday, January 31. Security forces reacted harshly to the protests: on January 23, more than 4,000 people were detained, and on January 31, more than 5,500 .
