The head of the Iranian judicial system was declared the winner of the presidential election

The head of the judicial system of Iran Ibrahim Raisi was declared the winner in the presidential election in the country. As stated for him, more than 62 percent of the voters who came to the polls voted. The official information is transmitted by the State Information Agency Irna.

The elections took place on Friday. Polling stations were opened from morning June 18 until the night of Saturday. In total, it was possible to vote for four candidates. At the same time, the current President Hassan Rouhani did not take part in the elections, as he held this post for two consecutive terms.

Supreme secular and religious power in Iran belongs to the highest leader of the state, 82-year-old great Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The President is the head of government under him and signs international treaties.

At the same time, these elections are considered experts important to the country, since it is assumed that for Raisi the presidency’s post can become a step in his preparation for the post of senior leader.

60-year-old Raisi is considered an ultra-conservative politician. His name is associated with participation in the mass executions of opposition in 1988. Then up to several tens of thousands of people were killed. It is under American sanctions.

Before participating in the elections, 585 people were not allowed, three more refused themselves at the last moment. The opposition urged to boycott the vote.

It is consistent with official data, the turnout amounted to more than 60 percent. The current president of Rowhani called the indicator "epic and unique" and causing "regret and the despair of enemies and ill -wishers."
