The Lipetsk Regional Court upheld the sentence of Sergei Pavlyutkin, a defendant in the “palace case.” This is reported on the court's website.
The interests of the political prisoner were represented by lawyer Maxim Zolotarev, who collaborates with OVD-Info.
At the end of April, the Sovetsky District Court found Pavlyutkin guilty under the article on the use of violence against police officers (Part 1 of Article 318 of the Criminal Code). According to investigators, the person involved in the case sprayed a gas canister towards the police at the rally on January 23. Two police officers were identified as victims in the case.
Pavlyutkin was sentenced to a year in a penal colony. The prosecution asked for a year and a half in prison. During the investigation and trial, Pavlyutkin was under house arrest.

The security forces reacted harshly to the protests: on January 23, more than 4,000 people were detained, on January 31, more than 5,500 , and on February 2 , more than 1,400 people .

Protest participants were accused of using violence against security forces (Article 318 of the Criminal Code), as well as violating sanitary and epidemiological rules (Part 1 of Article 236 of the Criminal Code), involving minors in illegal activities (Part 2 of Article 151.2 of the Criminal Code), hooliganism ( Art. 213 of the Criminal Code) and other articles.
