In Russia, a program was developed to implant chips into the brain

In Russia, they developed a federal program to implant microchips into the brain, Kommersant said with reference to sources. The publication clarified that President Vladimir Putin approved it, and 54 billion rubles were allocated for its implementation. RBC later found out that the program was closed due to "inappropriateness."

According to Kommersant, the federal program "brain, health, intelligence, innovation for 2021–2029" was developed by the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) together with Moscow State University. In March, Vladimir Putin approved her and instructed the Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin to work out the program. The Ministry of Education and Science "Kommersant" said that the project "is in the initial study stage."

According to this program, it was planned to investigate and develop neuro interfaces in which external devices can be controlled, for example, a computer or exoskeleton, directly, sending the electrical signals of the brain that are transformed into control commands.

RBC wrote that the program was closed in 2020 due to its inappropriateness. This was confirmed by the Ministry of Education and Science. The project has no funding.
