The most expensive cities of the world for expates are named. Moscow-on the 62nd line, first place at the capital of Turkmenistan

The American consulting company Mercer has published the results of its annual study of the most expensive cities for foreigners. Researchers make this rating in order to help employers determine the amount of salaries for their foreign employees.

When compiling a rating, analysts took into account the cost of housing, products, traveling and more than 200 goods and services in 209 cities of the world.

The most expensive city for living in it was recognized as the capital of Turkmenistan Ashgabat. He changed places with Hong Kong, the leader of the 2020 rating (in 2021-2nd place). There, high prices are due to the economic problems of the city and the republic as a whole, in particular hyperinflation. According to Jean-Philippa Sarra from Mercer, the economic crisis, which began in Turkmenistan in 2014 because of a fall in hydrocarbons, worsened even more during the pandemic period. Basically, the economy of this country is exported by hydrocarbons to Russia.

Beyut was in third place in the list, followed by the Japanese capital of Tokyo, and closes the first five Zurich. At the same time, it is noteworthy that Beyut rose from the 45th place in the list to the third year in a year. Analysts believe that this is due to the development of the economic crisis in Lebanon, which exacerbated due to the pandemic of coronavirus and explosion in the port of Beirut in August last year.

Shanghai, Singapore, Geneva, Beijing and Bern were also in the ten most expensive for the expansion of cities. It is worth noting that Switzerland is presented in this rating for the largest number of cities - the high cost of life in it is associated with economic growth. Most of the cities included in the top 10 Mercer rating are business centers in which economic growth led to increasing housing prices and other vital expenses.

The Russian capital in this list took 62nd place out of 209, and St. Petersburg-the 119th. Kyiv took the 149th position, Almaty-the 193rd, and Minsk-the 197th. The most affordable cities in the cost of life are recognized by Bishkek in Kyrgyzstan, Lusak in Zambia and Tbilisi in Georgia. London took 18th place in the ranking, Paris 33rd, Dubai 42nd, Munich 52nd, Helsinki 56th, Berlin 60s, Madrid 67th, Prague 90s.

In 2019, the consulting company ECA International also recognized Ashgabat as the most expensive city for foreign citizens.
