In correctional colony No. 3 of Kineshma, Ivanovo region, two prisoners died. This was reported by the regional department of the Investigative Committee.
As stated in the release, on June 26, two convicts were cleaning the sewer channels of a well in the institution. During the work, the prisoners were poisoned “due to the release of an unidentified substance in the well.” In addition, another convict and a dog handler who tried to help also poisoned themselves. Two victims died on the spot, others were hospitalized.
Based on the incident, the Investigative Committee opened a case of negligence (Part 3 of Article 293 of the Criminal Code). The agency believes that the poisoning could have occurred “due to improper performance of official duties by employees of IK-3, lack of proper control on their part over the work, and failure to provide the necessary personal protective equipment.”
