DOXA editors face harsher charges

Alla Gutnikova, a member of the DOXA student magazine team, has been charged, reports Dmitry Zakhvatov, a lawyer defending her from OVD-Info. The remaining editors will be charged within a day.

The editors of the magazine are accused of involving minors in dangerous activities (Part 2 of Article 151.2 of the Criminal Code). The investigation believes that Alla Gutnikova and her colleagues encouraged teenagers to go to uncoordinated rallies in support of Alexei Navalny, which took place in the winter. As evidence, protocols drawn up for minor participants in protests are attached to the case. There is no information in the materials that they got to the protests because of the DOXA video, Zakhvatov added.

Separately, the lawyer noted that in the case under the article on the involvement of minors in activities that pose a danger, there are no victims, although according to procedural rules there should be.

“The object of the crime [under the article] is health, in particular. The minor is concrete, not abstract. This particular minor victim, based on the charges, does not exist. And if so, then there is nothing. There is no crime either,” Zakhvatov concluded.

To the charge of involving two or more minors in dangerous activities (clause “a”, part 2, article 151.2 of the Criminal Code) via the Internet (clause “c”, part 2, article 151.2 of the Criminal Code), a charge of committing a crime by a group of persons was added (clause . "b" part 2 of article 151.2 of the Criminal Code).

The title has been changed due to clarification of information about the accusation .

• On the morning of April 14, four journalists from the student publication DOXA - Armen Aramyan, Alla Gutnikova, Vladimir Metelkin and Natasha Tyshkevich - were searched. After that, they were taken for interrogation to the Investigative Committee, and then to the court for a hearing to select a preventive measure: all four were given a ban on certain actions with strict restrictions.
• Journalists are accused of involving minors in activities that are dangerous to them (Article 151.2 of the Criminal Code). A criminal case was opened because of a DOXA video in which the publication’s participants addressed students - they urged them not to be afraid of threats of expulsion for participating in rallies. Subsequently, the magazine's editors deleted this video at the request of Roskomnadzor. The head of Alexei Navalny's headquarters network, Leonid Volkov, is involved in the same case. According to investigators, after Volkov published the video “How can we get Navalny out of prison,” DOXA employees, against the backdrop of active discussions on social networks, had an intention “to support the above calls and create their own publications.”
