The court arrested the brother of the wife of former Moscow mayor Luzhkov Viktor Baturin in a fraud case

The Basmanny District Court of Moscow arrested the brother of the wife of the former mayor of Moscow Yuri Luzhkov, Viktor Baturin, in a fraud case. Mediazona was informed about this by the press service of the court.

Baturin was arrested until September 1 on suspicion of attempted fraud on an especially large scale (part 3 of article 30, part 4 of article 159 of the Criminal Code).

The businessman was detained on July 1. Details of the case are not disclosed, but an “informed” Interfax source claimed that the reason for the detention was Baturin’s attempts to obtain the market value of a 25% stake in the Inteko development group “illegally.”

The representative of the detainee Elena Baturina’s sister, Gennady Terebkov, confirmed that the entrepreneur and founder of Inteko contacted the Investigative Committee with a statement of fraud.

Kommersant noted that we are talking about a lawsuit that Baturin filed in 2011, demanding that the rights to 25% of Inteko shares be returned to him. Then he provided the court as evidence with an agreement with his sister, which stated that these were his shares, and Baturina must pay compensation.

The development company Inteko was created in 1991 by the wife of former Moscow mayor Yuri Luzhkov, Elena Baturina. Her brother became the company's first vice president.

In 2013, the court sentenced Baturin to 7 years in prison and a fine of 700 thousand rubles. He was found guilty of multi-million dollar fraud with Inteko bills. A year later, the businessman was transferred to lighter conditions of detention, then to a colony-settlement, and in 2016 he was released from the colony.
