Putin signed a law on the Ministry of Justice's access to financial documents of NPOs representing bank secrecy

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law obliging banks to provide the Ministry of Justice, upon request, with access to the financial documents of non-profit organizations (NPOs). The document is posted on the official portal of legal information.

Appropriate amendments are being made to Article 284.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "The carrying out of activities on the territory of the Russian Federation by a foreign or international non-governmental organization, in respect of which a decision has been made to recognize its activities as undesirable on the territory of the Russian Federation."

The Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation is thus included in the list of state bodies entitled to receive information from credit institutions that is bank secrecy. Previously, such information was provided by NGOs themselves.

It is assumed that the Ministry of Justice will not be entitled to disclose information received from credit institutions to third parties.

The law, drafted by the government , was adopted on June 17 by the State Duma, and on June 23 approved by the Federation Council.
