On July 1, the St. Petersburg City Court dismissed an appeal to extend the detention period for Eldar Garipov, a person involved in the “palace case”. This is reported by lawyer Igor Skachko, who cooperates with OVD-Info.
The defense demanded that the decision of the Leninsky District Court to extend the preventive measure until July 2 be cancelled.
On June 28, Prisoners 212 reported that Garipov was transferred for a month to a psychiatric hospital for a psychological and psychiatric examination as part of a criminal case. Garipov is accused of using non-life-threatening violence against an employee of the National Guard (part 1 of article 318 of the Criminal Code) at a rally on January 31.
Immediately after the arrest at the rally, Garipov was hospitalized. Employees of the medical facility where he received first aid reported the injuries to the police. After that, a district police officer came to Garipov's house, promising to transfer the materials about the beating at the action to the Investigative Committee. However, after this conversation, a case was opened against the rally participant himself.
