Amur Region: Hunters received real terms for the murder of the Amur Tiger

In the Amur Region, two hunters from the village of Novostepanovka received real terms for the murder of the Amur tiger nicknamed Pavlik. Local residents of Nikolai Gladkikh and Sergey Evdokimov were found guilty of illegal animal hunting, the hunt on which is completely prohibited in the illegal extraction of particularly valuable wild animals from the Red Book. The court sentenced them to five years and two months of the colony. In addition, they will be required to pay a fine of 2.3 million rubles.

According to the materials of the investigation, Gladkikh and Evdokimov in September 2020 went to the forest to hunt Kosul, which is also prohibited by law. At night, one of them saw the Amur tiger and shot him. After they went home and returned to the forest the next day. There, hunters discovered an animal that still gave signs of life, but instead of help, the convicts shot at the tiger. The beast died.

On Pavlik there was a collar that allowed him to track his movement, but on the day of the murder he failed. The employees of the Amur Tiger center later found the remains of the animal and wrote a statement to the police. Zoo defenders note that the verdict issued in the Amur Region is the most strict, ever appointed for such crimes.

The Amur Tiger is listed in the International Red Book, is on the verge of extinction. One of the largest animal populations - in the Far East of Russia - now has no more than 500 individuals. In addition to poaching, the loss of the feed base is threatened with due to uncontrolled hunting on ungulates, as well as loss of migration tracks due to large-scale deforestation.
