The court awarded 100 thousand rubles in compensation to the defender of Shies, who was crushed by an excavator bucket

The Lomonosovsky District Court of Arkhangelsk awarded environmental activist and Shies defender Vladimir Kogut compensation in the amount of 100 thousand rubles for moral damages. This is reported with reference to Kohut himself.

In March 2019, an excavator broke the activists’ trailer, and Kohut was pressed against the wall with a bucket. The environmental activist had six broken ribs. A man named Alexey Kozlov was driving.

It was planned to bring waste from Moscow to the Arkhangelsk landfill in Shies. This caused discontent among local residents and led to prolonged protests; activists organized a 24-hour watch on Shies. In June 2020, authorities closed the project.

Four environmental activists Shies were tried in the case of an attack on excavator operator Kozlov. Two were given a year's suspended sentence, two were acquitted.
