The motto of the Olympiad "Faster, higher, stronger!" For the first time changed

The new motto of the Olympic Games will sound "faster, higher, stronger - together." The corresponding changes were approved by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) at a session in Tokyo.

The update of the motto occurred for the first time in 127 years. The initiator of the change was the head of the IOC Thomas Bach. He called the decision an epoch -making event. According to Bach, the word "together" will help to express the need for solidarity around the world.

The previous motto is "faster, higher, stronger!" He was approved in 1894, two years before the start of the first modern Olympic Games in Athens. The author of the slogan was the Dominican priest Henri Didon. He arranged sports competitions in college near Paris and uttered a phrase before the opening of the tournament. The motto was heard by a friend of the priest - Pierre de Cuberten, the creator of the International Olympic Committee and modern Olympiads.

The Olympiad in Tokyo will be held from July 23 to August 8. Games were supposed to be held in 2020, but were moved due to the pandemic of coronavirus.
