Russian banks connected Mir cards to Apple Pay for the first time

Initially, RBC, citing sources, named two more of the eight banks that connected Mir to Apple Pay: Otkritie and Rosbank. But later, representatives of the banks clarified to the publication that the service will be connected soon, but not on July 20, the specific date will be announced later.

The National Payment Card System (NSCP, operator Mir) was created in 2014 to service bank payments in Russia, after Visa and Mastercard stopped accepting cards from banks that were subject to sanctions due to Crimea. Mir cards were not previously supported by Apple Pay, so in 2018 NSPK developed its own MirPay application, which also does not work on Apple devices.

RBC reported that Apple Pay was supposed to start working for Mir cards from April 27, 2021.
