Research: Wild pigs create more greenhouse emissions than a million cars - they release CO2 from the soil

The boars “plow” the earth in search of food-and this has become a global problem due to their spread around the world.

Specialists of the University of Queensland assessed the degree of participation of wild pigs in global warming using computer modeling. It turned out that the world number of wild boars in the amount of carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere is comparable to 1.1 million cars. This was reported by scientists in the magazine Global Change Biology.

Carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere creates a greenhouse effect - allows the sun to go to the surface of the earth, but does not allow the reflected heat to go into space. Superior gases are considered one of the main factors of global warming, so the programs to combat climate change are aimed at reducing CO2 emissions up to a zero level.

However, the study of Australian scientists showed that greenhouse gases can be performed not only by a person, but also by wild pigs. In search of food, they annually break more than 36 thousand square kilometers of soils around the world, due to which soil bacteria receive an inflow of oxygen, begin to multiply intensively and release an additional 4.9 million tons of carbon dioxide.

According to scientists, the problem would not be so large -scale if the wild pigs continued to live in places of their traditional habitat. But a man settled the Kabanov in Southeast Asia, Africa and South America. There they breed at great speed and replace the indigenous species of animals, destroy trees and agricultural crops, and in Europe they arrange whole raids on cities.
