What is the cause of large -scale fires
The cause of the disaster, the Ministry of Natural Resources of Karelia considers atmospheric drought - a rare natural phenomenon recorded in the region for the first time. During it, there is an insufficient amount of precipitation, high temperature and reduced humidity. The consequence of the soil and forest litter becomes, which leads to fires.

Since June 18, precipitation did not fall in Karelia, and the daily air temperature did not fall below +25 degrees. Fire hazard indicators exceeded the average long -term values in six regions of the republic. This led not only to the appearance of fires, but also to their rapid distribution, they note in Roshydromet.
The head of Karelia, Arthur Parfenchikov, in the first place, among the causes of fires, puts the human factor, and only then - atmospheric drought and “dry thunderstorms” (another rare occurrence when there is no rain during a thunderstorm). According to the official, there is so far there is no hope of changing weather conditions, so the situation with fires "can last a long time."

How residents extinguish fires on their own and why they are unhappy with the work of the authorities
Volunteers in Karelia are organized both by the appeal of the authorities and independently. The head of the Republic of Parfenchikov said that those who wish to help with fires should apply to the administration of districts and rural settlements. On July 20, the Center for Coordination of Volunteers was opened in Petrozavodsk.
The participation of volunteers is required for auxiliary work - for example, stretching fire hoses and controlling the extinguished edge of the fire.
The volunteers who arrived at the place are given out the satchels so that they water the main hose, the republic reports . According to eyewitnesses, several volunteers from the final and Spasskaya lips work with lower fires: "They extinguish the foci around the perimeter, protect the sleeves extended to the fire."

The Karelia Tourist community is engaged in the organization of volunteers: daily there are information about the collection of volunteers and the equipment required for extinguishing - tractors, bulldozers, quadrocopter, shovels and respirators. Until July, the group spoke about the tourist places of the republic, but after it was re -profiled, since the situation is “more alarming”.
The townspeople are unhappy with the organization of extinguishing fires and the actions of the authorities of the republic: in Suoryarvi, local residents are outraged that they themselves had to extinguish the fire, gaining water from the fire engine.
There are manycomplaints from volunteers and local residents that firefighters did not begin to extinguish the fire in Nystenyarvi for a long time. “The column consisting of numerous equipment and hundreds of personnel arrived at about 15 hours in the village and four hours later did not even make a single attempt to help in extinguishing fire,” the local resident wrote .
On the official page of the Karelia government in Vkontakte, the Republic of Karelia called such messages “fakes” and called to believe only to those who were “in the place of fires”.
Residents recall how in April the Ministry of Natural Resources of Karelia reported on readiness for the fire hazardous season, but in fact, eyewitnesses believe, there were not enough equipment for extinguishing.
