In Poland, a Buryat lawyer detained at the request of Interpol was released pending extradition trial

In Poland, Buryat human rights activist and former operative Yevgeny Khasoev, detained at the request of Interpol, was released. He himself told Taiga.info about this.

“They released me because the case was politically motivated,” he clarified. As reported in the telegram channel of the organization “Siberia without Torture,” with which Khasoev collaborates, the Polish prosecutor interrogated the human rights activist about his activities and the reasons for leaving Russia. In a week, the Polish court must decide whether to extradite the human rights activist to the Russian authorities.

The lawyer and former police officer were detained in Warsaw at the request of the international bureau of Interpol on July 21 and sent to the police department for 48 hours. Khasoev was put on the international wanted list in April 2021 and arrested in absentia in cases of threatening to use violence against a security officer (Part 1 of Article 318 of the Criminal Code) and slander (Part 2 of Article 128.1 of the Criminal Code).

According to investigators , in February, while waiting for a hearing in court, Khasoev tried to enter a closed building for repairs, and “responded aggressively” to the bailiff’s remark. Khasoev was taken outside, where, according to the Investigative Committee, he took out an awl and a folding knife and began to threaten the bailiff. The security officer was able to throw the knife away, and then took advantage of the moment to run away and call for help.

In addition, Khasoev is accused of publishing a video in October 2020 in which he “voiced deliberately false information discrediting one of the internal affairs officers.” The lawyer himself said that he considered the cases “politically motivated” and connected them with participation in the filming of the film “I am a policeman who was tortured by the police.”
