The prosecutor's office demanded that the Yakut shaman Gabyshev be sent for compulsory treatment

During the debate in the Yakutsk City Court, the prosecutor's office demanded that the shaman Alexander Gabyshev be sent for compulsory treatment. Aleksey Pryanishnikov, coordinator of Human Rights Postcard, told Mediazona about this.

According to the coordinator, the Investigative Committee, based on the results of the investigation, filed a court order to send Gabyshev for compulsory treatment. They want to send the shaman to an institution with intensive observation, he clarified.

Gabyshev is accused of using violence against a National Guardsman (Part 2 of Article 318 of the Criminal Code). According to the Investigative Committee, when 50 security officials came to the shaman’s home to forcibly hospitalize him, Gabyshev wounded the National Guardsman with a homemade bladed weapon.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs explained such a number of police officers by the need to bring the shaman for examination by court decision; later the court declared it legal to involve such a number of security forces. At the dispensary, forced hospitalization was associated with Gabyshev’s refusal to take medications and be observed by doctors after discharge in the summer of 2020.

Alexander Gabyshev was forcibly hospitalized at the request of the republican psychoneurological boarding school. According to doctors, the shaman refused treatment and made “loud statements in the media.”

Gabyshev twice announced a campaign against Moscow. In 2019, the shaman headed towards Moscow for the first time to “expel” President Vladimir Putin.
