Journalist Ilya Azar was not allowed into Georgia

Moscow journalist and municipal deputy of the Khamovniki district Ilya Azar was refused entry into Georgia. He reported this on his Telegram channel.

According to the document published by the journalist, he was not allowed into the country for “other reasons.” What specifically influenced the decision is not indicated. Judging by the same document, Azar was flying to Georgia via Turkey. He was put on a plane on which he flew into the country.

“At first (long ago) he became persona non grata in Azerbaijan (for reporting from Karabakh); recently, after an article from the same Karabakh, he was banned from working in Armenia even in elections,” Azar wrote.

In October 2020, the Armenian Foreign Ministry revoked the journalist’s accreditation after the report “War at the Southern Gate” . The official reason for the revocation of accreditation is that the journalist entered the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh without permission. Azerbaijan recognized Azar as persona non grata back in 2013, when he worked at Lenta.ru.
