The last member of the State Emergency Committee Oleg Baklanov died
The former head of the rocket and space industry of the USSR Oleg Baklanov died. This was announced by the head of Roskosmos Dmitry Rogozin.
Baklanov was 89 years old.
Baklanov in August 1991 was one of the members of the State Emergency Committee. After the failure of the coup, he was detained for two years on charges of plotting to seize power, but was later amnestied. After the death of Dmitry Yazov at the end of February 2020, Baklanov was the only surviving member of the State Emergency Committee.
In the 1980s, Baklanov headed the rocket and space industry of the USSR. In this position, he, in particular, oversaw the project of the Soviet shuttle Buran-Energy. From 1983 to 1988, he also headed the USSR Ministry of General Mechanical Engineering.
